After leaving Market Time and Vietnam in 1968, John continued in the Navy until 1971, working on electronics at Pacific Beach and Jim Creek, Washington. After military service, he went back to school and began a career in law enforcement and forensic science. Since 1982 John has done forensic work with the Medical Examiner Division of the Oregon State Police and taught at Clark College. He spent two years (1986-1988) at the Central Identification lab in Hawaii, identifying MIA/POW remains from Vietnam. In 1987 John helped identify the 37 sailors killed when the USS Stark was hit by missiles fired by Iraqi Migs, returning to the mainland in 1988. His interests include SCUBA diving with vintage gear and model railroading.
