4 January 1970 arrived DaNang, assigned to G-3, HQ, III MAF at DaNang, and appointed as Chief Staff Officer of Task Force Clearwater based at Cua Viet River and MB 1. After finishing our Vietnamization program in July, Clearwater turned over its mission and all combat vessel assets to the VietNam Navy, and the Task Force was dissolved. Extended my one year overseas tour for another six months to get a 30 day R & R, first serving as III MAF HQ Commandant at DaNang. Left VietNam for Okinawa in April 1971 to finish my tour, and soon married a lovely Aussie lady. Was transferred to Arlington, VA for twilight tour at Defense Nuclear Agency until I retired in January 1973. Fathered two great young lads, and settled down in Bellingham, WA. Eventually learned that our PBRs, including the "Ugly Duckling" were designed and built there!
