Date of event: 10 October 2008.

Headline:  Modern Day Sailors Revisit their Heritage

Sailors from Maritime Expeditionary Boat Detachment 562 and Boat Detachment 932 currently with Boat Division 56 gathered at the Vietnam Unit Memorial Monument on 10 October 2008 and became acquainted with the Brown Water Navy of the 1960’s and 1970’s.  These sailors are reservists from throughout the country who are training and getting ready for deployment to the Middle East.

The reservists from Boat Detachments 932 and 562 brought along one of their modern-day boats so the early Brown Water Navy sailors could see the boats being used in current warfare environments.

The deploying reservists are a component of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, under which the Maritime Expeditionary Security Force (MESF) provides “layered” defense in an integrated coastal and landward security environment. Their security capabilities include mobile and fixed defensive operations; visit, board, search and seizure of suspect craft; and security in support of the Joint Force Maritime Component Commander.
