IBU 13 has been Reborn as
Maritime Expeditionary Boat Division 93
They are now bigger and better. On the right hand side of their patch you see the Phoenix rising from the ashes. This is not just a mythical event but a historical event because the Phoenix comes from the patch of
River Section 544 and River Division 593
Gamewardens Rides Again in the lives in today's Warriors and heroes.

Heraldry:
The colors' history and meaning - Warrior and Military Strength (red) , Truth and Loyalty (blue)
The shield for its symbolism and the heritage of IBU-13
The Phoenix is from a Meritorious Combat Unit, River Division 593, in Vietnam. Their CO and many members have settled in the PDX area. We wanted to honor that boat heritage.
The pattern in the lower left is in the shape of Oregon state from where our unit is home ported (each Blue "square" is the shape of the state)
The Latin "CLIPEUS NAVIUM" means "SHIELD of the FLEET", our mission.
MIND
Training: This is what it's all about. We all need to “hit the books” of our trade often to keep our knowledge fresh. There will always be planned training but don’t hesitate to use down time to do “hip pocket training”. Pass on your knowledge and “train your replacement”. At every brief cover the CO’s standing orders, weapons commands and safety, and rules of engagement (ROE). Everyone should know these cold!
Responsibility: Collateral duties will be spread out among everyone. Sailors will be held accountable to ensure completion of their assigned tasks, however don’t be afraid or hesitant to ask for help. No Sailor should be left to sink or swim. We will look out for each other and readily offer help where needed.
BODY
Physical Training: Get Tough! You must adopt routine exercise into your daily life. Just like brushing your teeth. Your body must be physically strong and flexible to meet our mission on a day to day 24-7 schedule. We aren’t Navy SEALS, but I expect our Small Boat Sailors to be fit above the standard. We will PT hard, and often. Our lives depend upon it!
Diet: It is critical that you have a healthy eating lifestyle to support your physical training. Pause and think about what you put into your body in terms of food and drink.
SPIRIT
Morale: Without high moral the team cannot succeed. We have always done very well at adapting to stressful situations. There will be a steady strain on the lines as training ramps up. Get to know your shipmates and learn to work with them all. As a unit, led by our First Class Mess we will make MWR a priority. Work hard. Play hard.
Tradition: As American Sailors, we stand on the shoulders of heroes. Since 1775 we remember those who have gone before us and by doing this, hope to capture and carry on their “Warrior Spirit”. As Small Boat Sailors you belong to an elite community. You will be recognized as so. Our heritage has deep veins in the Brown Water Navy of Viet Nam and we will pay special honor to those traditions as well. We will take every opportunity to forge the link between our past, present and future as we prepare for war. Unit Pride!

We were given a ride and demonstration of the boating skills by the Sailors of IBU 13 --- the ride was amazing. We can attest to the fact that they are right up there with the best and we are honored to be associated with the members of today's new Brown Water Navy.
